I think meeting up is a good idea. Berty is keen on a meeting but I think the problem would be in finding a location and time suitable to us all.

Hi Gillesa , I am near Nontron which is about 2-2.5 hours from Sarlat. I know several others are from my area but I don't have the complete picture. Berty was trying to formulate a map showing members locations but I don't think it is complete yet. Meetings could be problematic but local meetings might be an idea with occasional full meetings. We will see what other members think. Good luck with your layout, Brian

Hi Gillesa I also live near Nontron so again 2-2.5 hrs from Sarlat. When Berty has time to map our locations we may have a better idea of a suitable mid-point as it is always good to meet like minded people. Dieter

Hi all,
well I think it's that time again. Yes meeting time. So far we've had the inaugural meeting in Javerlhac in November last followed by our 2nd meeting in Nontron in January.
From the 1st meeting when we had a humble 3 members we now have 29 members (according to this forum's statistics today), a huge improvement I'm happy to say.
Since I started this forum I have constantly asked members and potential members to please tell me where they are so that we can accommodate as many people as possible when deciding on a venue for a meeting. Well I'm sorry to say that I have had a very bad response to this request. It is impossible to organise a meeting at a place to suit everyone if I don't know where you are.
So, with this in mind I will schedule the next meeting for Saturday March 29th in Perigueux. I have not yet decided on a venue but will endeavour to check out possible locations in Perigueux and let everybody know in plenty of time. However, if anyone has any suggestions please PM me and let me know as soon as possible so I can check it out and ask the owner if it is okay to invite a group to sit around talking for a couple of hours. Once the date and venue are known I will announce it on the forum as well as Angloinfo and the DVN.
I think you will all agree that Perigueux is central to most people living in the Dordogne. Although we are open to members from all over France the only ones who have given me their locations so far are living in that Department. Following the Perigueux meeting I suggest that the next 2 meetings after that should take place in Sarlat and Bergerac but again everything is open to suggestion.
For the previous meetings I was informed by potential attendees and members that they had already planned a day out with their families for the chosen dates but as per usual, I encourage you all to invite friends and family to come along and get to know fellow railway modellers. At the very least they can have a pleasant walk around Perigueux.
If anyone has any suggestions or ideas to enhance the forum or to promote the group please tell us at the meeting.
On another note, I see that the Buy & Sell page got off the ground recently with Brian offering items for sale. Don't forget that the Buy & Sell page is open to members and non-members alike but please be aware of who you are dealing with. Let both buyer and seller check each other out before parting with either goods or cash.
Okay, it's over to you now, please continue to contribute articles and info or even railway-related questions to keep the forum alive.
Best regards
Berty

Hi everyone,
I've just been checking the statistics of the forum and in particular the notice regarding the next meeting. It's interesting to see that we now have 30 members and the notice was viewed by 34 persons (not necessarily all members)but to date nobody has replied or commented about the proposed next meeting.
I did get a reply from lienbackwards (thanks Neil) informing us of his location and a message from Brian suggesting we forget about meetings and just stick to the forum. I'm inclined to agree with Brian. Since I started the Google Group and then the forum I have consistently asked for members to tell me where they are and I'm fed up waiting.
I also asked (in the notice about the next meeting) for suggestions for a venue in Perigueux but still nothing.
Is there anybody out there?
Berty

Hi Berty I am sorry I will not be mobile until at least early June so I would not be able to meet up. I think meeting up is always a good idea but we have to think of the distances involved. Even a trip to Perigueux is an hours drive for me and a lot longer for other members. Maybe in line with Brian's idea we might meet up once a year in some form of AGM without any formal framework. I really think the distances involved do not make the idea of large meeting impractical but it may be possible for members in a general area to meet up. Cheers Dieter (St. Estephe 24360)

How about a map with members positions on? Perigeaux wouldn't be out of the question - about 2.5 hours up t'peage but not, unfortunately, that date. I don't have a layout at the moment but hope to start some base boards soon after building a chicken shed! Have some buildings from the last one in the UK sitting in a box which I will get out and photograph plus Midland and GWR stock. However, I am tempted to start on a French layout based on the various extensive networks which were in this area but would be at a loss as to which loocs and stock would be required. Several old stations still stand, large, small and very tiny which would make good models. SNCF reopened the branch line from Pau to Oleron St. Marie and intend to do the same up the Vallee d'Orsau to the spectacular Canfranc Station just over the border in Spain. Now a plug for another network I'm on - www.survivefrance.com. Really useful. Here's our home address www.breaaway-to-bearn.com and my paintings, illustration and photographic site www.idea1.eu

Hi Berty
The only central location I would suggest would be the Star Inn on Rue Drapeaux which is in the centre of Perigueux near the large car park just of Sq. M Levy by the Prefecture. Hope this is a help Cheers Dieter
