Relatively recently found one of these 0-6-0 switchers. As far as I know DJH made a batch of these in "proper" gauge 1 [1:32 scale] for an american importer/retailer around 30 years ago. Detailing is not up to the finest levels but to my mind it has sufficient, including some features such as opening cab doors, without being too fragile to handle. It had not seized up a had a headlight and (continuous) Seuthe unit. There is easily enough room in the hidden tender to fit a large speaker and I intend to put in an MTH digital kit for DCS / DCC / analog control. Incidentally these kits are intended for upgrading their earlier non-protosound O gauge locomotives and there are very slight differences between their upgrade kit and the decoders put in to the MTH gauge one units so if you use one to replace a dead gauge 1 decoder you will for instance probably need to put a dc-dc voltage amplifier to drive the gauge 1 smoke units. Motor control should be satisfactory as their larger O gauge locos can take a couple of amps at stall. In this instance I bought a spare fan blown smoke unit as for the equivalent O gauge switcher on the reasoning that it must be small enough to fit.
I got in contact with DJH who apparently have just the one staff member who remembers them being made, I was suprised to hear that they kept no records of this product whatsoever. At least they replied, something that Bockholt and others do not always bother with even if you translate to German.
It has to be said that in american 1:32 there has been a moderate selection of the larger steam locomotives but not much provision down the simpler end and I was happy to grab it, british brass manufacture with two loads of transatlantic travel covered in the price. I might just try and document the conversion as/when/if I do it with the view of offering it to a garden railway mag.
