Hi Stuart,
Please excuse the long delay in replying, I have been otherwise engaged recently.
My feeling about painting brass, large-scale models that are likely to become outdoor (garden) railway models, is that the new owners are more likely to want to paint them to protect the materials from the elements. Depends on the layout and when they use their layouts I guess, but that's my two-pence for what its worth.
All the best John
