The first two semaphore signals have arrived - superbly made by Jon Fitness of "Boltons Bits". They are worked by nylon fishing line back to a mechanical lever-frame.

Very nice, signals look elegant, beautifully modelled. I am also curious about the 'wires'? to the right in the third picture, are they point-operating wires? This part of the layout looks to be indoors, so presumably no problem with stretching in the signal operating cable?
Look out for a private 'admin' message from me shortly.
All the best John

Yes, the indoor points (the terminus in the cave under the barn) are worked by rods and bell-cranks from a mechanical lever frame, as are the points at the outdoor terminus at the other end. Points which are too far from the lever-frame are solenoid operated, with position indicator lights on the lever-frame. For the signals, fishing line is OK for short distances, but the longer runs use steel wire - fishing line stretches too much and wastes most of the action of the operating lever. There is a TV camera to observe passage over the remote junction (double-to-single track), and a photo-cell to indicate when the train has arrived at the other end.
