Hi John I have just read the Daily Mail article and it turns out to be the biggest load of "Daily Mail Nazi" gibberish. The paper seems to affix the term Nazi to any European story. The station was used by Franco and Hitler for one meeting in 1940 and for year before and after that was just another border crossing. Before the open borders of the EU all main line border crossings had grand railway stations, Strassburg between France and Germany, Geneva and Basel on the France/Swiss border. The only pity is the run down state of such a lovely building.

Hi Dieter,
Thanks for the update, I did have my reservations about the Mail, and the usual sensational headline, but the building is so splendid, and the model is a very faithful representation, the coincidence of having seen both images (the real and the model) within a day of each other prompted me to post. I am sure other members must be reading news items about unusual or otherwise interesting railway stories, just wish they would post them here!
All the best John
