I would like to encourage Members to show other members where they are located; this would help in organizing local events, and in deciding what might be of use to a particular Member, or group of Members. These changes do not show email address, street address, just a general location, so you can be as vague, or precise as you wish.
For your location to appear in this way, do the following. 1. Go to your Profile (in the blue top menu bar. 2. Click Edit Profile. 3. Select the Personal Tab. 4. At the bottom of the page you may either, add or alter your Signature to include your location, or fill in the last 3 boxes. 5. Then click Save Personal Settings right at the bottom of the page.
I hope you find this useful. All the best John

I never show too much personal information on essentially, an open forum, as the world wide web is a dangerous place to do so.
Please take care and stay safe.

No problem Bill, this is just for those members who have expressed a wish for their location to be known.
I hope you are finding it easier to get around the Forum with these recent changes? I always enjoy your posts and watch with interest to see have you overcome your struggle with the overpowering attractions of EBay.
All the best John

Hi John, The board certainly looks impressive and you've spent a lot of time re-organising everything for us. We're only a handful of people though and our active chaps just a half dozen and it was easy to use the general board for everyday chit chat in an informal manner. I hope we don't loose our small and friendly feel, despite a desire to be bigger and somehow better. For more active group with oodles of resources, we can all easily access one of many UK based forums, such as RMWeb (or gwr.org for Western fans). I posted a few the other day and I still gain pleasure for in discovering new resources. There is obviously a finite limit in France for English speaking enthusiasts and I look forward to talking to more of them as they join the merry band. Must dash, as our postman has just delivered the latest treasures from eBay! Nah, there is no known cure which is of interest Onwards, Bill

Hi Bill, Thank you very much for your comments, this is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. I completely agree about there being other "more active group with oodles of resources, we can all easily access one of many UK based forums, such as RMWeb (or gwr.org for Western fans)." Personally I like "Your Model Railway Club" at yourmodelrailway.net/ I don't think anyone amongst the Forum originators imagined it would ever be huge, as you say, there are a limited number of enthusiasts in France, but the idea was to reach as many as possible, and provide a helpful network to assist with issues peculiar to living here. The need to update the Forum arose due to several threats of closure from ProBoards, who host the Forum, due to low activity levels amongst members, and it was hoped that the changes recently made would encourage and attract new, and active members. Of the current 87 member, only 30 have ever posted, some of them only once. So a further step is going to have to be to have the non-participants move to Guest status, (where they can continue to browse if they wish) in order for our activity level to be a realistic reflection of our membership, which will be small compared to other forums, but as time passed, hopefully, we will be able to fine-tune this forum to suit the needs of, specifically, active, English-speaking, railway modellers in the whole of France. I sincerely hope that active members will continue to maintain the friendly atmosphere that exists at present, and make contact with other members, both in the Forum pages and offline. And please, if you have any suggestions about improving AFRM along the lines we are trying to achieve, (or any other lines for that matter) do let me know, either on the Forum pages, or by private message. I am very new to this Forum business, as you have probably gathered, but I am eager to learn. Meanwhile, I can see that you are making at least one French postman's life worthwhile - I bet he's dying to know what is in all those packages! All the best John
