Hi all, Sorry to wake you all up! I am nearly ready to start building my layout and am looking for framing and ply to create a base board. Apart from the Brico has anyone got ideas for the cheapest option? I intend making a static grass applicator and a polystyrene cutter along the way. It is all very exciting and as soon as the weather breaks I will be in my workshop beavering away. Hopefully now the holidays have gone along with the inevitable visitors you will all start writing again. I know Berty is preoccupied with his move but will still be in touch. Best wishes to you all, Brian

I've seen youtube videos showing static grass application and the results are quite superb. I've also seen a couple of vids for home made units and as I've got a couple of electric fly killers and access to a tea strainer, I'll be having a go too down the home made route. So Brian, how has yours turned out and any tips? Bill PS, only ever use tea bags now, so the bride wont even miss the tea strainer, hopefully

Hi all, I have now finished the static grass applicator and the polystyrene cutter. The former was made more complicated because I didn't realize that the tea strainer was made from stainless steel. ( a posh one , I hope Sandra doesn't miss it!) .This made soldering impossible and a bolt attaching the wire the only option which in turn made refitting the fly killer handle more difficult. But it is quite neat. The cutter was easy using plastic conduit and fixings, a second guitar string and an old controller which made voltage alteration simple. Now I can get the correct voltage to cut neatly without burning. I have also set up the layout on trestles so I can work on it and move it away from the wall when required. I hope to replace the trestles with drawer units and so give myself some storage space. Time as always is the problem. I will be going to the UK for a birthday party soon and I am waiting for a new pistol to arrive so I can get some practice in before the competition season starts. Progress must be made before I completely forget what it is all about! Best wishes to all Brian

Hi John Things have moved on since my last post. I have built and connected the mimic board which was complicated as I am going digital for control but analogue for points and led operation. Over 40 wires to sort out left my brain be fuddled. I am now about to start ballasting to make sure I have enough material to complete it before I go to the UK when the chance to replenish stock will be available. I will try to take some photos when I get time and attempt to add them to my post. My birthday celebration was here last week and a quiet affair, the U.K. one is for my sister and is a bit special as it is on the 29 th Feb so she doesn't get many birthdays! I am shooting a lot at the moment and took part in a competition at departmental level last weekend and was happy with my efforts. The new pistol has arrived and I am getting the hang of it hopefully in time for the next competition in April. I need a few more days in the week to keep up! I am pleased to hear about your progress, keep it up. I must try to get up to see you soon. I ll be in touch Best wishes to all Brian
