Hi Brian,
thanks for the tip regarding cork underlay. It's amazing what you can find when you look around hardware stores or even in the home. Dieter, good luck with your op, look forward to hearing from you when it's over.

Hi Brian,
Did you notice the thicknessss of the cork underlay?
I am planning a new layout. My current one uses Tracklay, which I have found to be super and makes ballasting a doddle, but I am always on the lookout for alternatives.

Hi Bill, The cork I found was 4mm thick and is LIEGE in French. It comes in rolls and seems to be of good quality and certainly cheaper than that sold in model shops. Good luck with your project. Cordialement Brian

It is good stuff, I did a notice board faced with it for a chum, takes drawing pins very easily, too. Does need a sharp blade and a low angle to prevent it tearing out at the edges especially.

I bought two packs of 300x300x3mm thick cork tiles from Bricoman yesterday for 12€ and they also do 4 and 10mm thick, as well as 2mm in a roll. You can see them at: www.bricoman.fr/m008/catalogsearch/result/?q=liege. . . and also see the branch nearest to your railway. Happy modelling, Bill
