Once the Garden Fete was finished and out of the way I had promised myself that I would widen the radius at the western end of the loop before Autumn set in. Also it was a good chance to add a trestle bridge, something else I've always wanted to build. Using an old pallet destined for the Dechetterie, I de-nailed it and cut it into strips on the table saw. It's ideal material for outdoor use. Most pallets are well weathered and often impregnated with a waterproof substance. Building the trestle into the radius meant that it would be on a curve plus keeping the inward tilt of the radius made my design a bit more challenging. Photo shows my 4-6-2 Baldwin Pacific about to attempt the crossing pulling a train of four box cars and two stock cars. Anyone out there with a gauge one loco, whether live steam, battery or two rail pick- up are more than welcome to try out my loop. The garden Fete drummed up around 800 Euros for the Twilight Dog Hospice. The money has gone towards the Vet's bills. Thankyou to everyone who attended and a special thankyou to Brian Keep up the good work. Attachments:

Hi Ray,
Not much chance of progress in the garden in this weather I expect?
Two things, one is a question. How do you go about protecting your trackwork and points, etc., from the elements? Summers can be ridiculously hot and winters just the opposite. Surely the weather takes its toll?
Second thing, I know you are an O gauge man, and I think there is going to be a sale of O gauge stuff in Confolens, department 16 about an hour south from Poitiers. Not sure where you are so this may be out of range for you, but thought I would let you know in advance just in case. I will make an announcement of the venue when I have some more information, but I think it is within the next couple of months.
All the best John

I run a Gauge 1 double track outdoor layout, of which running is restricted to nice days!(when they appear) 3 locos are live steam and 8 others are electric with internal battery or battery van and control by Aristo Train Engineer. Living in the remote regions of Dept 22, there is little interest in the gauge (Except LGB), the nearest group to me active in G1 is near Paris, some 550 KM away! (Longjumeau EVC45 group). Cornwall where I lived before coming to Brittany is nearer! I have have held running sessions for visitors on odd occasions, but when thw wife runs a BBQ for visitors, interest is lost! and you are left runnig on your own!
My Avatar shows a G1 brittania (Now Sold)
Waiting for warmer weather (And 30 yds of track repairs after 3 winters damage)

Hi Phil and welcome to the group. My pal Little Den had a garden layout for many years near Limoges and probably not subject to too harsh winters. Sadly, he has returned to Blighty and presumably, there's remnants of a lost railway giving someone cause to wonder about some unusual garden features!
Anyway, all the best with your repair and we look forward tohear more from you soon.

Just a belated mention that I am also interested in g1 and sell Accucraft and MTH. I normally do the run from Poitiers to St. Malo several times a year and wonder how far off that route you might be?
