Hi Longchap Always good to have more rail enthusiasts over here. There are a couple of us here in the north Dordogne/Charentes border modelling various scales and era's. I am with you on the modern technology, but I did see some DCC layouts at an exhibition back in the UK and it is really impressive but with the jargon it sounded like a foreign language, even more complicated than French. Good luck with the move over and the outbuilding project.

Hi Reichsbahn, Thanks for your friendly welcome and I'm pleased to find that I'm not the only one scratching my head with DCC. I think I'll stick to my tried and tested 30 year old controller and isolators with a branch line layout. I can understand that and can even use a second controller to handle some yard traffic. I'm going to resist any urge to unpack much equipment until I've got the outbuilding in a reasonable condition, but I'll be rereading some of the old railway magazines over the winter, as well as grabbing some new ones next time I'm in the UK. That's one powerful loco on your profile pic LC

Hi Longchap, welcome to France. You will no doubt find that the first year or so is time consuming getting the basics sorted out. The best advice I can offer is not to think logically and never fight with the paper shufflers, they always win! i have just started putting together my first layout and have decided to go down the DCC route. It is less complicated than it seems and gives a lot more flexibility. I may add that I don't like technology but it sometimes works for you. best of luck with your projects. best wishes, Brian

Hi Longchap Glad you like the picture it is a Bavarian S3/6 built by Krauss-Maffei and later became the Reichsbahn class 18, along with the Prussian P8 it is one of my favourite loco's. Dieter

Hi Dieter,
I can see where your username came from now! There's usually a story behind them, including my own!
Unfortunately, all my steam photos were taken before the digital photography age and are all as slides(transparencies), so I can't post them.
One of my favourite locos however is the GWR King Class, used on express passenger routes and I have a much detailed model tucked away.
Take care and speak soon.

Hi Brian,
Good to hear from you and thanks for your welcome. I learned from the 12 months it took to obtain the planning permissions for our building works, just how important it is to give the 'paper shufflers' due respect and all the time they require. Fortunately, I can be a very patient man.
Good luck with your layout and I look forward to reading more of your progress.
Bill
