I have been researching DCC for my new layout and spoke to an expert in UK a few days ago. He told me to avoid that well known British make and go for a power cab by NCE. It is a 2amp handheld unit which at 136 pounds is expensive but apparently exceptionally good with plenty of control available. It might be worth anyone who is going down the digital route considering this unit, I know I am! brian

Hi, I too am new to DCC, but bought on Ebay Roco Multimax set, 2 hand held units etc.....simple, brilliant and easy to use and programme once you get the idea...I use 8 pin Hornby (cheapest ) and have 30 locos now running with DCC....many were made long before DCC was in use, so they needed to be hardwired....easy enough. HI
I used DCC in the UK before I had an NCE controller which I was very happy with until it developed a fault. The thumbwheel speed control stopped responding. I emailed NCE and was advised to return the unit to them in the USA. I investigated further and came across MERG.org.uk They are a bunch of Electronic experts who are into Model Rail. They have developed their own DCC equipment which you buy as a kit and solder all the components onto a pre-prepared circuit board. If you have any soldering skills it is very easy and fully explained. Also forum there is very helpful. And the cost, fractions of the price. Controller and Throttle £26.80 & £37.80 so for £64.60 you have a full working DCC system. But that is not all they have a plethora of kits including a 2 wire control system CANBUS
Hope this helps Trevor

Hello all, just found you guys after a few frustrating years here on the CDZ what a breath of fresh air, I can agree with the last post as I have also used the NCE system, do we have a reliable supplier here in France for DCC decoders? I tend to import from DCC Concepts in Australia, who also have some great reading material for programming and CV ajustments, all the best for now
