Hi Just a small warning not to succumb to e-bay temptation. In these long winter nights it is easy to scroll through the thousands of items that are for sale on e-bay. I have just bought 2 new loco's and the only problem is they are from another country, another era and another motive power from my normal models. I have been led astray by two American beauties a Mehano Alco 629 in the livery of Canadian National and a Athearn EMD GP 59 in the livery of Southern. The only downside is the loco's are not fitted with NEM coupling sockets so I will have some work to do to install close couplings. I was thinking at first at to re-paint the Alco 629 in the colours of the DB similar to the Class V200, but I don't think I will now. (again I was going to download a picture of the V200 but the file is big for the forum site) I was going to download some pictures of the loco's but the files are to big. I picked up both of these loco's for less than £30 and they are absolutely cracking. They are really well made and are superb runners. I have been informed by she who must be obeyed that however deep the love is I am barred from e-bay until further notice

Hi Dieter,
They do sound an enticing pair, so well done! I too have recently received a similar 'suggestion' from the bride, although as she had just let me buy a new guitar (from Germany), I now have to give ebay a wide berth . . . . for a while at least, haha.
Happy Christmas,
Bill

Hi Dieter,
Don't know where we would be without eBay and the net in general.
I have acquired all my limited Om from online sources, as with most other scale purchases these days you just don't see the shops and when you do they don't have what you are interested in or it's to expensive.
I'll miss the regular Train fairs I used to go to in the UK, still I bet there are second hand / junk shops and Vide Gernier just waiting to be discovered!
I am also currently banned from said purchases until much work has been completed on the new place, hey ho!!
Compliments of the season, Richard.

Hi All I have been to a few train fairs here but the prices are just silly. I am not sure if the French have grasped the meaning of second hand. I found a chap selling some old rusted Fleischmann stock at a Vide Grenier but he must have priced up his stock on the net and decided to charge accordingly, the only problem was his were at least 25 years old and he was pricing as if there were brand new. My wife has also "banned" me from e-bay but I just cannot resit a bargain, the flack I get is awful but I always get away with it, so far!!! Dieter

Hi All I agree with you regarding Hattons and I can also vouch for Rails of Sheffield who have a great selection. E-bay is just so addictive especially when an item comes up at 0.99p starting price, the only problem is that you set a price and do not get into a bidding war. E-bay isn't just auctions though it does help you get a good price on items. Just recently I have been looking for a hot wire cutter and trawling through the items for sale on the site I have found one at the right price and delivered to France with reasonable p&p costs. Back into the barn tomorrow, I will get this light fitted before Christmas. Cheers

Ah, I gave in to temptation and bid for a Bachmann wagon! Oh the shame, but I may not win after all, haha!

'Hippotoys' on ebay, charge just three of the British pounds to deliver a small packet to your door here in France. How cool !
I've a second package on it's way soon, but must control these urges better . . . well maybe, haha!

The curse of e-bay has struck again ( I have told my wife it's not my fault) I have just taken delivery of a Roco HO model of a Royal Saxon railways box van in the colours of Rama margarine. The model is an absolute cracker and just £8 delivered, brilliant.

I admit it I am an ebay junkie but as I explain to she who must be obeyed I am but a weak feeble minded male, she still cannot understand how I could spend a whole day in the NRM at York and be bored but driven to ultimate boredom within 5 minutes at M&S. Just persuaded her that a short holiday in the Bavarian Alps in April would be a lovely break, just forgot to mention the day in Munich watching the comings and goings at Munich HBF. Oh what fun when she finds out!

I can concur to the success of the often used ruse of being just a boy, aka weak feeble minded male, etc, when used as a defence tactic for all sorts of things in the household I wonder Dieter, if it'll still work, when 'she who must be obeyed' discovers just how much fun you've planned for her in Munich. You go to all the trouble of arranging an interesting little outing together and do they appreciate all the effort? We feel your pain. Bill

I have sold the idea with the hint of a shopping trip while I take in the delights of the Station what I forgot to mention was at the top of the main shopping street is the Hofbrauhaus. So I will be able to pursue my other hobby, no flies on the old boy. Of course I will have to feign surprise when we come across the watering hole.

Hi all, Not being an eBay fan I have to rely on buying online or second hand. Today whilst talking to a plumber I found that he wants to sell off his collection of mainly oldish railway bits and pieces. I will see him next week and report on my findings if any. You have got to be lucky sometimes! Till then keep warm, Best wishes to all Brian

Hi Guys,
Well done Brian for banishing Satan behind you, erm, I mean eBay of course. My excuse for maintaining my addiction though, is that it provides what I think I want, even though it isn't always what I need, haha! Anyway, I received a couple of lovely 3 and 5 plank PO wagons this week and am expecting a GWR fruit van and a 7plank PO wagon next week. I recently acquired my first Bachmann rolling stock and were mightily impressed with the quality of wheels and detailing generally. The bar has risen a deal over the 30 intervening years since I was previously active with the hobby. I've also been impressed with a couple of Replica Railways wagons and then saw the Bachmann name on the underside.
As the railway room will be at least a couple of months away from being ready, I've dug out my old portable work surface and once I find a local source for suitable acrylic paint and weathering colours, I'm keen to make a start on some of the numerous building and road vehicle kits, as well as painting up some people and smaller detail pieces for that all important atmosphere.
Merry modelling a tous,
Bill
